Hoffman Claims Big Bud
Al Hofmann earned the largest single-day purse in NHRA history, winning $100,000 in the Big Bud Shootout special event for Funny Cars during the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Hofmann beat Cruz Pedregon with a quarter-mile run of 5.139 seconds at 299.50 mph in a Pontiac Firebird. Pedregon finished in 5.301 at 289.11 in a Firebird.
