University of Montana men’s basketball coach Blaine Taylor pleaded guilty to a drunken-driving charge.

The plea was to an alternative drunken-driving charge known as “per se DUI.” The alternative charge is based strictly on blood-alcohol level and does not require proof that Taylor, 37, could not drive safely.

It also does not carry the mandatory, one-day jail sentence under the usual law for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Justice of the Peace Stewart Stadler accepted Taylor’s plea and imposed a $320 fine and 10-day, suspended jail sentence. Stadler also ordered Taylor to attend a chemical dependency course in Missoula.
