Cda Woman Dies From Overdose

From Staff And Wire Reports

An unemployed nurse died of an overdose on prescription medication Thursday, possibly after crushing several pills and shooting them into her bloodstream, Coeur d’Alene Police officials said.

The pills may have been muscle relaxants.

Roni Marie Parkins, 42, was a licensed practitioner nurse in the state of Oregon but was not currently employed, said Capt. Carl Bergh.

Police found Parkins dead in a Ninth Street home at about 4:40 p.m. Thursday, according to a police report.

According to the report, Parkins had a prescriptions for muscle relaxants. A bottle of 60 pills that had been given to her on Wednesday was empty when officers found it.

Capt. Bergh said witnesses also have said that Parkins crushed up several prescription pills and injected them.

An autopsy is expected to be complete next week.
