The cramped courtroom where the Oklahoma City bombing trial is to be held will not be remodeled to make room for more spectators, a federal court clerk said Monday.

Renovations are under way to provide more space for lawyers in the trial of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, accused of killing 168 people in the April 1995 bombing.

About 100 spectators will be allowed to watch the as-yet-unscheduled trial in person. A trial date is expected to be given at the next court hearing Oct. 2.

The trial will be televised only via closed-circuit TV in Oklahoma City to a select group of people, mostly family members of the bombing victims. The Denver courtroom was chosen to ensure a fair trial.
