Market Will Open As Planned

While residents on the east side of Monroe at Ninth Avenue shivered and looked for candles last week, the west side of the street never lost power.

Construction continued on Huckleberry’s Fresh Market, and the former IGA store at Ninth and Monroe will open as scheduled at 7 a.m.Wednesday.

“We were able to work through the storm,” said Norm Carpenter, the new store’s marketing director. “It caused us inconvenience, but we were able to keep on working.”

Carpenter said workers were already putting non-perishable items on the shelves of the new store, which will feature natural and organic produce.

The store will also contain a bistro and coffee bar.
