Johnny Olszewski, a star running back at California who later played 10 years in the NFL, has died of respiratory failure. He was 65. Olszewski had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease the last eight years. He is the fourth-leading rusher in Cal history with 2,504 yards, and his 269-yard performance against Washington State in 1951 is still the second-highest single-game total in school history… . John Force, who set numerous records in drag racing this season, broke auto racing tradition when he was honored as the 1996 Driver of the Year. He is the first driver in the 29 years of the award to come from a series other than NASCAR Winston Cup, CART or Formula One. Force, winner of an unprecedented 13 of 19 National Hot Rod Association Funny Car events in 1996, edged Winston Cup champion Terry Labonte for the honor.
