A brother and sister whose mother died 10 days ago have gone to court for permission to keep her body at home in a freezer.

If they can’t, they will consider having her buried in ice - or under a glacier in Alaska, Moshe and Rachel Esther Beeri told a Tel Aviv magistrates court Sunday.

Police ordered the siblings to hold a regular burial for their mother, Miriam Beeri, who died at age 70. But they refused, saying they hope scientists may one day figure out how to restore her to life.

“We want to go on living close to mother and give her a chance to return to us in the future,” Moshe Beeri, 49, told the Maariv newspaper. “Who knows what science may achieve in the next few years?”

“For many years we talked to mother about this possibility, and she was very much in favor of it,” he said. “I too, when my time comes, would like my body to be frozen.”

The siblings have been keeping their mother’s body in a special freezer that cost $940.
