Report Recommends Arming Campus Cops

Associated Press

A report on whether to arm campus cops at The Evergreen State College takes a double-barrelled approach.

Vice President for Student Affairs Art Costantino aims to heed the demands of those on campus who oppose guns by calling for a ninemember task force to explore other options first.

But the report issued Friday would also give campus safety officers a shot at carrying firearms on a limited basis.

The recommendations now go to officials the caliber of college President Jan Jervis and the board of trustees, which is scheduled to vote on the weapons issue Feb. 14.
