Emergency crews rushed across icy Eastern Washington on Monday evening, dealing with more than 100 accidents, including a lethal two-car wreck in Stevens County.

C.W. Miller, 60, of Colville died of head and internal injuries after the car he was riding in was struck head-on north of Addy on Highway 395.

Washington State Patrol troopers said the highway was slick with water and ice when the accident occurred about 4 p.m.

Miller was riding in a two-door Toyota driven by Pamela Miller, 49, also of Colville. Both were wearing seat belts, troopers said.

Her car collided with a southbound Oldsmobile driven by Danelle E. Tidwell, 25, of Spokane. Troopers said Tidwell was passing other cars at the time.

Pamela Miller suffered a broken leg and was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center. Tidwell received a broken jaw and cuts, and was treated at Mt. Carmel Hospital.

Also injured were her son, 5-year-old Derek Tidwell, and 23-year-old Jarod Beeman, also of Spokane. Both were treated at Mt. Carmel for minor injuries.

All three people in Tidwell’s car were not wearing seat belts, troopers said.

Despite more than a dozen accidents, Interstate 90 remained open in Eastern Washington. A section of I-90 near Lookout Pass was closed when ice caused numerous accidents during the evening.

More than 50 cars went off the road in the Chattaroy, Deer Park and Milan areas, said a sheriff’s office spokesman.
