Panorama Tourney Titles Go To St. George’s Teams

B basketball

For weeks, the Republic boys have been ranked in the Associated Press poll while St. George’s - despite beating Republic - hasn’t.

That may change after Friday, as Jason Ala scored 10 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to lead St. George’s (21-2) over the seventh-ranked Tigers 52-44 for the Panorama League Tournament championship at Colville.

Meng Tseng added six fourth-quarter points for the Dragons, who trailed 34-29 after three quarters.

The Dragons have won 17 straight since a Dec. 27 loss to Reardan, which won the Bi-County Tournament title on Thursday. Republic (20-3) had won 17 straight since a league loss to St. George’s.

St. George’s opens the District 7-B Tournament at Spokane Falls Community College at 7:45 p.m. Monday against Bi-County No. 4 Liberty (16-7), which is ranked ninth. Republic begins at 6 Tuesday against Bi-County No. 3 Valley Christian (12-12).
