British Columbia Gets New Premier

British Columbia’s new premier will be Glen Clark, after he handily won the leadership of the New Democratic Party.

Clark easily turned aside four rivals Sunday for the job made vacant by Mike Harcourt’s scandal-driven resignation announcement last November.

As expected, the former union organizer needed just one ballot to win a crushing victory, taking more than 70 percent of delegates’ votes. He officially becomes premier on Thursday.
