A moderate aftershock to last September’s Ridgecrest earthquake and a swarm of smaller quakes rattled Southern California early Sunday, though no damage or injuries were reported.

A 5.2-magnitude temblor struck at 6:32 a.m. and was centered 10 miles north of this high desert town, said seismologist Jim Mori at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

Residents reported feeling the quake as far south as Newport Beach, 135 miles away, although it wasn’t felt in downtown Los Angeles.

It was followed by six smaller quakes in the same area, all 3.0-magnitude or stronger, in less than two hours.

“It’s pretty typical of that area - when there are quakes up there, there are quite a lot at one time,” said Caltech seismologist Kate Hutton.
