After two months of solo trekking, Russian explorer Fyodor Konyukhov reached the South Pole on skis, his manager said Monday.

After traveling 833 miles across the polar ice cap, Konyukhov arrived at the South Pole on Jan. 7 - Russian Christmas and the 175th anniversary of the continent’s discovery.

He pitched the white, blue and red Russian flag to mark his achievement, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported.

Konyukhov started his journey on Nov. 7, traveling on skis and dragging a sled loaded with 297 pounds of food, clothing and gear.

The Antarctic crossing was only the latest of Konyukhov’s exploits. He has already reached the North Pole, climbed Mount Everest and circled the globe in a yacht.
