Got the January blues? A little fiddling around could be just the cure.

The Washington Old Time Fiddlers are hosting their winter festival today at Trent Elementary School, 3303 N. Pines Road. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.

It’s called old-time fiddling, true, but the fun isn’t just for old timers. Kids as young as 6 will perform alongside folks older than 90.

Fiddle groups made up entirely of youngsters include the Junior Hoedowners, beginning and intermediate players made up of children age 6 through 16; and Fiddlesticks, advanced fiddlers age 6 through 18.

Some national-caliber adult fiddlers will take the stage, too.

Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children and $10 for families. Group rates are also available for churches, senior center and non-profit groups.

Indian education meeting

Parents, guardians and those interested in Indian education in the Spokane Valley are invited to a public hearing to plan next year’s Title V Indian Education Program.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Central Valley School District administrative building, E19307 Cataldo.

The purpose is to prioritize areas of emphasis for Indian students who are enrolled in the program, kindergarten through 12th grade. Current programs include tutoring, counseling, career awareness, cultural awareness and substance abuse counseling. East Valley, Central Valley, Freeman and West Valley all participate in the program.

Moab meeting Monday

The state Boundary Review Board will hold a public hearing Monday on a proposal to extend public water lines to nearly 230 acres on the west shore of Newman Lake.

The hearing begins at 6:30 p.m. at Mountain View Middle School, 6011 N. Chase.

The proposed annexation by the Moab Irrigation District has generated controversy, with some residents saying the area needs public water and others saying it will lead to unnecessary development.

Millwood tree meeting

The Millwood Urban Tree Board steering committee will discuss the town’s evolving public tree ordinance at it’s monthly meeting on Feb. 8.

The meeting will be held at the town hall, 9103 E. Frederick. It begins at 7 p.m.
