District, State Probing Harassment Charges

From Staff Reports

The Moses Lake School District is investigating charges that a teacher and coach sexually harassed students.

Lonnie Humphrey, a 23-year veteran of the district, was put on paid leave May 24 following charges that he kissed players on a girls softball team he coached.

Humphrey, a high school math teacher, also measured girls for uniforms and watched girls changing clothes on a bus, according to statements given to the district by team members.

Humphrey refused to comment on the charges.

His annual salary is $48,038.

The state superintendent’s Office of Professional Practices also is investigating, which could lead to Humphrey losing his teaching certificate.
