Bus Runs Off Rainy Highway, Killing 17

Compiled From Wire Services

A bus plunged off a rainy highway in central Mexico on Monday, killing 17 people and injuring 26 others.

It was the second fatal bus crash in this country in three days.

The bus apparently was speeding when it ran off a highway 65 miles northwest of Mexico City hours before dawn, the Televisa news network quoted a police officer as saying.

The bus fell down a 25-foot embankment, the government news agency Notimex said. The driver was among the dead, Notimex said.

On Saturday, a driver lost control of his bus on a highway near the border with Arizona, killing four passengers and injuring 29.
