John Cook of Coeur d’Alene lost in the second round of the 71st U.S. Amateur Public Links Golf Championship on Thursday in Lihue, Hawaii.

Cook lost 1-up to Scott Johnson of Kennewick on the 7,004-yard, par-72 Wailua golf course.

Also, Brian King of Lewiston defeated Steve Yogi of Honolulu in 20 holes.

American Legion

George Petticrew fired a one-hit shutout, helping the Blue Devils beat the North Stars 3-0 in American Legion baseball at Shadle Park on Thursday.

Ryan Corigliano went 2 for 4, hitting a double and a triple, and drove in one run.
