Thursday Is Deadline For Unemployment Help

From Staff And Wire Reports

People who are unemployed because of the February flooding in North Idaho have until Thursday to file for federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance.

This program is for people who do not qualify for regular unemployment insurance.

Claims should be filed at any North Idaho Job Service office.

The minimum benefit is $87 per week.

People who were self-employed or people who did not have unemployment taxes paid on their wages in 1995 have to provide a copy of their 1995 tax return in order to get a higher benefit.

As of March 9, a total of 296 people have filed for unemployment based on problems from the floods.
