Maryland Hangs On To Beat Georgia Tech

Associated Press

Brian Cummings completed a career-high 21 passes and Orlando Strozier intercepted two passes in the final 2 minutes as Maryland jarred Georgia Tech’s bowl hopes with a 13-10 victory Thursday night.

Maryland (5-5, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) built a 13-3 lead early in the third quarter, then held on to defeat the Yellow Jackets for only the second time since 1988.

Cummings was 21 for 29 for 192 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia Tech (5-4, 4-4) has lost three of four and must beat either Navy or Georgia in its final two games to qualify for a bowl berth.

The Yellow Jackets’ final solid chance to forge a tie ended when Strozier intercepted a pass with 1:43 left. Georgia Tech got the ball back at its 49 with 29 seconds to go, but Strozier immediately picked off Joe Hamilton’s pass to decide the issue.
