A Spokane man was charged with vehicular assault after an accident that injured a woman on her way to work early Monday.

Police say David Patrick Bledsoe, 24, of 5715 N. G, was traveling west on Garland at 4:40 a.m. when he ran a red light at Garland and Alberta. The woman, whose name was not released, was traveling north on Alberta.

She is being treated for a spine injury.

Bledsoe, driving a Toyota Tercel, hit the woman so hard that her Hyundai Scoupe was cut in two from the impact to the passenger side, police say.

The Hyundai’s front half sliced through a chain-link fence before stopping against the side of a house. The back end of the car remained in the street. The impact shot the front bumper over a house and into a back yard.

Police found an open container of alcohol in Bledsoe’s car. He was treated for minor injuries at a hospital before being released and booked.
