Cowin In Charge Of Plane

Navy Airman Recruit Marshall S. Cowin, son of Jim and Janice Cowin of Bonners Ferry, has been designated a plane captain while serving with Sea Control Squadron 21, Naval Air Facility, Atsugi, Japan.

Cowin, who joined the Navy in August 1994, gains new responsibilities for flight readiness and pre-flight inspection of an individual aircraft and is also entrusted with ensuring that all required maintenance is performed.

Cowin gained his new designation by demonstrating the ability to troubleshoot all the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and communication systems aboard the squadron’s aircraft.

Timothy W. Mezin, a 1996 graduate of Post Falls High School and son of Fleetis and Sandra Miller of Post Falls, has enlisted in the Army’s infantry (Ranger) and recently departed for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga.

Mezin, who is an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, qualifies for up to $30,000 under the Army College Fund Program due to his enlistment choice and high test scores.

David P. Cannon, a 1996 Lakeland High School graduate and son of Buddy and Stacey Cannon of Rathdrum, has enlisted in the Army as an M-1 armor crewman and recently departed for basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.

Cannon, who joined the Army to meet the physical and mental challenges, qualifies for up to $25,000 under the Army College Fund Program due to his enlistment choice and high test scores.

Vannessa V. Burstein, a 1995 graduate of Kettle Falls High School and the daughter of Maureen Howard of Athol, has enlisted in the Army as a water treatment specialist and recently departed for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Burstein, who joined the Army for college money, qualifies for up to $30,000 under the Army College Fund Program due to her enlistment choice and high test scores.

Andrew K. Troutvetter, a 1996 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School and son of Jeffrey and Gary Dorosh of Hayden Lake, has joined the Army as an infantryman and recently departed for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga.

Troutvetter, who joined the Army for skill training and experience, qualifies for a $4,500 cash incentive due to his high test scores and enlistment choice.
