Bingo Hall Employee Arrested For Theft

Jonathan Martin St Staff writer

An employee who admitted stealing nearly $1,500 from a Spokane bingo hall was arrested Thursday, police said.

Sean M. Brewer, 20, was taken into custody at the Big Brothers & Sisters Bingo center, 930 N. Monroe.

Managers there turned him in after he confessed to stealing the money. Brewer apparently offered to pay it back but his supervisors called police anyway.

He was booked into jail on a charge of first-degree theft.

Sisters charged with burglary

Russian sisters were arrested last week for residential burglary after getting caught breaking into a house to steal an exotic African bird named Jack.

Natyana V. and Natasha V. Komarov were booked into the Spokane County Jail and were awaiting arraignment.

The bird belonged to the sisters, according to police, but they didn’t have permission to retrieve it from a friend’s East Boone apartment. The women gave Jack to the friend to sell it; three months later, he hadn’t sold it.

After receiving a report of the stolen bird and an undetermined amount of cash, police found the women at their apartment at 1123 W. Sharp.

They admitted breaking in and taking the bird, but denied stealing the money.

The bird is estimated to be worth $700.

Threatening utensil

A man armed with a fork threatened a waitress at a north Spokane restaurant Wednesday night but ran away when the woman resisted, police said.

Authorities suspect robbery was the motive.

The incident occurred minutes after the man ordered breakfast at the Bend Restaurant, 2721 N. Market.

Police say he walked to the cash register as if to pay his bill.

As the waitress rang up his total, the man stepped partially behind the counter and raised his fork in a menacing fashion, police said.

The waitress yelled for help and pushed the man, who ran off.

The suspect is Hispanic, in his early 20s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 140 pounds. He has black hair, a thick mustache and a scar on his forehead.
