Four Lakes Man To Be Charged In Car Wreck

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Four Lakes man suspected of causing a car wreck that killed a Cheney resident will be charged with vehicular homicide, the Washington State Patrol reported Tuesday.

Gary D. Gaskell, 33, is at Sacred Heart Medical Center recovering from injuries he received in the Monday night wreck on state Highway 904 near Cheney.

Gaskell was listed in serious condition late Tuesday with leg and arm fractures.

Troopers said there is evidence Gaskell was drinking before he drove his 1990 Toyota Celica across the center line and hit a 1988 Ford Crown Victoria driven by John Mamanakis head on.

Mamanakis, 79, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene from massive trauma.

Gaskell, who also was buckled up, has no criminal record in Spokane County. , DataTimes MEMO: Cut in Spokane edition
