Pend Oreille Derby Coming Up

More than $30,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded in the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club’s spring K&K Challenge Derby April 25-May 4.

A $10,000 cash award is waiting for the the largest rainbow or mackinaw caught in the adult division, derby officials say.

A $10,000 bonus will be awarded to a derby angler who breaks the Idaho record for mackinaw.

Five Sportsman’s Awards have been created to honor anglers who catch and release big fish.

The warm-up to the derby is the annual pin-auction to raise money for fisheries research at Lake Pend Oreille. The auction is set for Saturday at the Sandpoint Elks Club beginning at 7 p.m.

Derby entry forms are sold at sport shops and marinas around the lake, as well as in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene.

A fly-tying clinic by Skip Morris, author and fly fisher from Portland, will be offered May 13 at Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute in Spokane. The clinic runs 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for $30, which includes lunch.

Pre-registration required. Call (509) 328-3740.
