Dollar Sinks On Economic Data

The dollar fell against most currencies Thursday after the government reported weaker-than-expected economic data and Bundesbank President Hans Tietmeyer expressed support for a strong mark.

But the dollar strengthened slightly against the yen after the Commerce Department reported a modest shrinkage in the monthly trade deficit with Japan.

Also, a senior Japanese finance official said there was no danger that Japan’s trade imbalances would cause major problems with the United States.
