Cv’s Smith Cards A 61

Central Valley’s Brandon Smith equaled the best Greater Spokane League boys golfing effort in memory with a 7-under-par 61 Wednesday at waterlogged Wandermere Golf Course.

Smith shot 31 on the par-35 front nine and 30 on the modified par-33 back side. The 18th hole, because of heavy water, was reworked from a par 5 to a 210-yard par 3.

The seventh hole had the lone temporary green. Conditions were not ideal, said Mead coach Paul Peters, because of driving rain and recently aerated greens.

North Central’s Pete Caruso shot a 7-under 65 at Indian Canyon Golf Course during a GSL match 10 years ago. , DataTimes
