Spokane’s Lee Chosen For University Games

Ferris High graduate Jaimie Lee is making a name for herself as one of the best volleyball players in the United States.

The Notre Dame senior is among 12 players selected for the U.S. World University Games team, USA Volleyball announced Friday. USA Volleyball also announced a 12-player U.S. national team that will compete at the upcoming World Grand Prix.

“This has been a great experience,” Lee said. “The experience has intensified my desire to one day compete for the Olympic team.”

Besides, she said, “It’s quite an experience to be around people who are on Wheaties boxes and stuff like that,” during the summer-long tryout process at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Jaimie and a special day in the history of our program,” Notre Dame coach Debbie Brown said of her team’s co-captain. “This could be a very memorable senior year for Jaimie, beginning with the World University Games, and we are very happy for her.”

The World University Games, for athletes ages 17-28, will be held Aug. 18-31 in Sicily, Italy.

After the World University Games, Lee, an outside hitter, will join her Notre Dame teammates in time for Spikeoff Spokane on Sept. 5 and 6. Notre Dame is considered a contender to reach the Final Four, which will be held in Spokane on Dec. 18 and 20.
