Weber turned a lap of 152.436 mph on the 2-mile oval course at the south end of Lake Washington.

Close Call, driven by Mark Tate, ran a qualifying lap of 149.303 mph in the morning session, then came back in the afternoon just a hair behind Weber at 152.362.

Other qualifiers include: Pennzoil Pit Stop, driven by Steve David, 148.002 mph; DeWalt Tools, Mike Hanson, 146.942; PICO American Dream, Mark Evans, 146.455; Team Stihl, Jerry Hale, 145.867; First Choice Business Machines, Nate Brown, 143.002; Miss Elam Plus, Jimmy King, 141.10; Graham Trucking, Jerry Hopp, 136.111; Red Robin/ Miss Exide, Mike Jones, 135.762; and Spirit of Lake Chelan, Rick Christensen, 127.830.

Three boats failed to qualify Friday: Spokane-based Appian Jeronimo with driver Mitch Evans; Chaplain’s Volkswagen-Subaru-Mazda, with rookie driver Brian Reynolds, and Computers and Applications, driven by Ken Muscatel. They will have another chance to qualify today.

There were no flips in Friday’s qualifying sessions. The only incident came as Appian Jeronimo was pulling onto the course to qualify. Evans made a hard right turn, hit a stray wake and spun out. There was minor damage to a front canard wing but Evans said it would be quickly repaired.
