Sand Castle Contest Canceled After Riot
A popular sand castle competition held annually in this Vancouver Island community has been canceled because of rioting at this year’s event.
Mayor Julia MacDonald made the announcement in a statement released at Monday’s council meeting, but left open the possibility of a family-oriented children’s sand castle event.
“This fall, council will invite to a meeting those within our community who wish to help plan Parksville family events in 1998,” said MacDonald, who was unavailable for further comment.
