Residents Must Bag Or Box Leaves This Year

From Staff Reports

Residents cannot sweep their leaves into the streets this year for removal.

Because of problems with the volume of leaves generated in Coeur d’Alene, people must bag or box leaves they want removed. Those containers can be put out with garbage containers on regular trash collection days beginning Nov. 10.

Each container should not be larger than 33 gallons or 65 pounds and should be durable enough not to break when lifted.

Leaves will be picked up for four weeks, or until Dec. 5. Residents are asked to divide their leaves into four equal amounts and set them out with the trash each of the four weeks during leaf pickup.

Residents should make sure there is not sod, dirt or rocks in the leaf bags.

The change is being made because the city composting operation can no longer handle the volume of leaves. In the interest of saving money, Waste Management will transport the leaves to the landfill.

People can take up to 2,000 pounds of leaves to the city transfer station on Ramsey Road for no charge. For more information, call 765-4968 or 769-2227. , DataTimes
