Revenge Promised If Nato Expands
Ultranationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky led a protest rally near the U.S. Embassy on Saturday, warning that “an indignant Russia” will take revenge for NATO’s planned eastward expansion.
About 100 people attended the demonstration in the center of Moscow, organized by Zhirinovsky’s misnamed Liberal Democratic Party.
“Your (U.S.) policy of hegemony leads nowhere,” said the hard-line leader, who finished fifth in last year’s presidential election with 4.3 million votes. “Russia will find a worthy answer to NATO’s expansion, meaning new weapons and new allies.”
“American movies, propagating violence, have flooded the entire world. Their heroes are gangsters and murderers. Gangster morals rule their country. Thus the screens are filled with gangster culture,” he said.
“But mankind will never allow itself to be ruled by people with the miserable soul of a gangster.”
