Rescuers End Search For Quake Survivors

Compiled From Wire Services

Rescuers gave up hope Saturday of finding any survivors in the rubble of a seven-story building, destroyed by the most devastating earthquake to hit Venezuela in three decades.

Since the earthquake struck this South American nation Wednesday afternoon, crews had dug round-the-clock through the debris to find anyone who might be alive. On Saturday, they resigned themselves to looking for the bodies of the dead, believed to number about half a dozen.

The earthquake killed at least 70 people and injured 469 others.
