Moscow River Has Cholera Bacteria
The Moscow River, which flows through the center of the Russian capital, has been contaminated with cholera bacteria because of two sewage leaks into a tributary.
Bacteria levels in the tributary, normally at 5,000 parts per quart, now stand at 240,000 parts per quart, Dr. Olga Gavrilenko of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Center told the Interfax news agency.
Bacteria levels are at 70,000 parts per quart where the tributary meets the Moscow River.
