Officials Kill Stubborn Bear
State wildlife officials shot and killed a 6-foot, 220-pound black bear outside Port Orchard after attempts to knock it unconscious with tranquilizer darts were unsuccessful.
“It did not go down after being hit by two darts, and it would not go up a tree,” Tim Waters, spokesman for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, said Wednesday.
Two Fish and Wildlife agents, a dog handler and several dogs chased the bear for four hours, before the animal was shot in a 40-acre wooded area just outside of town.
