Dollar Hits 11-Week High Vs. Yen

The dollar hit an 11-week high against the yen Tuesday but fell vs. the mark for the first time in six days after a top German government economist predicted central banks would halt the mark’s slide.

The dollar ended mixed in other currency dealings.

The remarks by Rolf Peffekoven, a member of German Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s independent council of economic advisers, provided a reason for traders to take some profits on the dollar’s 5.5 percent gain on the mark since July 1.
