Two-thirds of Americans believe Timothy McVeigh is guilty in the Oklahoma City bombing and 71 percent favor the death penalty if he is convicted, according a Newsweek poll.

The poll, in the June 9 issue, on newsstands Monday, found 66 percent believe McVeigh guilty, compared with 5 percent who believe him innocent. Twenty-nine percent didn’t know.

The 71 percent who favored death for McVeigh if he is convicted was 5 points higher than those who favor the death penalty in general.

The telephone survey of 502 adults has a margin of error of 5 points.
