Gm Negotiations With Uaw Continue

Separate negotiations were held Friday between General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers to resolve a strike at one plant and avert a walkout at another.

At a pickup truck assembly plant in suburban Detroit, 5,850 workers have been off the job since April 22. The UAW has threatened to strike the automaker’s metal-stamping plant near Grand Rapids, Mich., with 2,340 workers.

GM spokeswoman Mary Irby also said negotiators were making progress at Grand Rapids.
