Three Arrested In Kidnap, Beating Of Woman

A 26-year-old woman was abducted from her Spokane Valley apartment and beaten early Thursday in a dispute over a $1,000 debt.

A few hours later, sheriff’s deputies arrested three suspects at a store near U.S. Highway 2 and Mt. Spokane Park Drive.

Deputies were searching for a fourth suspect late Thursday.

The victim was treated and released for minor injuries, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Joyelle L. Mills, 25, of Grand Coulee; Lori A. Anthony, 37; and Larry A. Anthony, 36, were booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping.

Lori and Larry Anthony are both from Nespelem, Wash. It wasn’t immediately known if they are related.

The four suspects allegedly showed up at the victim’s apartment in the 12100 block of East Cataldo about 1:30 a.m. and forced their way past her mother.

They confronted the victim in her bedroom and demanded money, said deputy David Reagan. When she told them she had none, the suspects beat her and threatened her mother and children, Reagan said.

The woman was then forced out of the apartment and into a light-colored car. She was beaten repeatedly while the suspects drove her from pay phone to pay phone, making her call friends to ask for money, Reagan said.

Crime Check operators began receiving calls from the woman’s friends reporting the abduction. One agreed to meet the woman with money at a North Side store and called deputies, who were waiting when the car pulled in.

The suspects surrendered to deputies without incident.
