Sharp Appeal outfinished OK By Me by a neck to win the $100,000 Bougainvillea Handicap for 3-year-olds on grass at Hialeah in Florida.

Sharp Appeal, ridden by Jose Santos, was timed in 1:47-4/5 for 1-1/8 miles. The Bougainvillea was Sharp Appeal’s fourth straight victory this year, all on grass. He paid paid $11.40,$4.40 and $5.40.

The Dubai World Cup, the world’s richest horse race that was washed out Saturday by torrential rain, will be run Thursday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is investigating the death of Paul Falkenstein, a horseman who bred, owned and trained thoroughbreds in California for more than 40 years. Falkenstein, 86, died March 16 in a local hospital. A spokeswoman said the cause of death is “pending.”
