Williams Will Lead Nic Softball Team In Debut Season
North Idaho College’s newest sport, women’s fastpitch softball, has a new coach.
Don Don Williams has been named coach of the fledgling program, athletic director Jim Headley announced Friday.
NIC presently has a club team, coached by Williams, that has played only two games. The Cardinals will begin official membership in the Scenic West Athletic Conference next spring. Softball will have the same number of scholarships as men’s baseball, Headley said.
Williams played fastpitch at Linfield College and later was an assistant coach at the McMinnville, Ore., school. She is married to Tony Williams, son of Rolly Williams, former NIC athletic director and men’s basketball coach.
“She was very highly recommended,” Headley said.
Williams was one of three applicants for the job. NIC will probably play games at Memorial and McEuen fields, Headley said.
