Truck Spills $500,000 But No Returns

Associated Press

No one is rushing to return $500,000 in cash that vanished after an armored truck overturned in a traffic accident.

Even threats of prosecutions aren’t leading anyone to step forward in west Oakland.

“People here you know, this is the ghetto. They see money, they’re gonna take it, you know,” Chaka Grace said Friday.

A truck from Armed Courier Service collided with a car and overturned Thursday, popping its back doors open and spilling somewhere around $500,000 in bills and coins.

Armed Courier wasn’t the only business to suffer. As soon as the cash spilled, Jimmy Stanley lost his lunch crowd at the Grand Burger Restaurant.

“People went and ran outside,” he said. “They didn’t pay.”
