Former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe has applied for a school guard position that pays $10.49 an hour, school officials for Prince George’s County said.

Bowe, who lives in Fort Washington, has several nieces and nephews in the district and wanted to work with youngsters, Cason said.

Bowe could start as security assistant as early as this fall, Cason said. His job would be to help what the district calls an investigator counselor to maintain order around middle schools and high schools.

WBC light heavyweight champion Montell Griffin and Roy Jones Jr. will meet in a rematch Aug. 7, with both fighters out to prove they were wronged by the controversial outcome of their first bout, during which Jones was disqualified for punching Griffin when he was down.

Jones is 34-1 with 29 knockouts while Griffin is 27-0 with 18 knockouts. The fight is scheduled for the Foxwoods Resort at Ledyard, Conn.

Former World Boxing Association junior welterweight champion Ubaldo “Uby” Sacco of Argentina died of meningitis. He was 41.
