Pierce Survives 6th Flip

Compiled From Wire Services

Hydroplane racer Scott Pierce escaped serious injury again when he flipped his boat during qualifying for the Gold Cup unlimited hydroplane races.

The flip was the sixth of Pierce’s career, race officials said.

“I’m bruised and a little shaken up … but lucky to be alive,” Pierce told WWJ radio after returning to the race course hours after the accident.

Pierce was going 185-190 mph on a turn when his boat, The Wellness Plan, flipped, race spokesman Paul Scurlock said.
