Top-ranked Arizona got 17 points from reserve Eugene Edgerson as the defending NCAA champion Wildcats opened the season with a 115-53 win over Morgan State on Thursday night in Tucson, Ariz.

Arizona tormented the Bears (0-3) with full-court pressure, forcing 35 turnovers.

Edgerson added 12 rebounds for his first career double-double, Jason Terry and Miles Simon scored 16 points each, and Michael Dickerson had 14, including 10 in the first 3:50 of the second half as Arizona opened a 70-25 lead.

Rasheed Sparks and Ronnie Van Hook had 10 points each for Morgan State.

A 3-pointer by Van Hook with 2 seconds left prevented Arizona from setting a record for its biggest victory margin. The Wildcats’ largest win was 118-54 over Robert Morris on Dec. 28, 1996.

(3) Duke 100, Davidson 65 At Durham, N.C., Steve Wojciechowski led Duke with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in a backbreaking second-half run that helped the Blue Devils (2-0) beat the Wildcats for the 11th straight time.

(8) Purdue 107, NE La. 80 At West Lafayette, Ind., Mike Robinson came off the bench to score a career-high 29 points as the Boilermakers (3-0) knocked off the Indians (0-3).

(9) Kentucky 88, Morehead 49 At Lexington, Ky., Tubby Smith won his debut at Kentucky as the Wildcats scored the game’s first 19 points, routing the Eagles (0-1).

Guyton scored 24 points and Indiana coach Bob Knight got his first tantrum out of the way as the Hoosiers (1-1) topped the Blazers (2-1).

Guyton scored five of his points during a 14-0 second-half run that came soon after Knight punctuated his first technical foul of the season by slamming his foot into the scorer’s table.

(25) Georgia 78, Mercer 58 At Athens, Ga., freshman Jumaine Jones scored 17 points and sophomore Adrian Jones added 12 as the Bulldogs (2-1) beat the Bears (2-1) in Georgia coach Ron Jirsa’s home opener.

Women’s Top 25

Anna De Forge scored a game-high 24 points to lead No. 21 Nebraska to an 84-70 win over 16th-ranked Western Kentucky in a Preseason NIT semifinal at Storrs, Conn.

The Huskers will play Connecticut today in the finals. The No. 6 Huskies routed Northwestern 106-60 in the other semifinal.
