Annika Sorenstam won the LPGA Player of the Year award, the second time in three years she’s been the tour’s top player.

Sorenstam, 27, won six tournaments in 22 starts and a tour-record $1,236,789 in prize money. She’s the LPGA’s second player to win more than $1 million in a season, joining Karrie Webb, who won $1,002,000 in 1996.

Sorenstam has won 12 times since capturing her first title at the 1995 U.S. Women’s Open. She capped off this season by winning the LPGA Tour Championship.

The native of Stockholm has won a major tour award each of the past four years. She was rookie of the year in 1994, player of the year in 1995 and winner of the Vare Trophy with the tour’s lowest scoring average in 1995 and 1996.
