Baby Dies Of Injuries From Suspected Abuse

From Staff And Wire Reports

An Idaho infant died Sunday night at a Spokane hospital from injuries caused by suspected child abuse, according to the Spokane Police department.

Rebekkah S. Pettit, 3-1/2 months old, had been on full life support since she was hospitalized on Thursday, said Dick Cottam, police spokesman.

The girl’s father, 24-year-old David Pettit, was arrested last week on suspicion of first-degree assault. He is being held in a Moscow, Idaho, jail. He is a University of Idaho student.

Doctors told police the girl’s injuries were consistent with being severely shaken. X-rays found the baby had previously suffered a broken leg and three broken ribs, police said. , DataTimes
