Arson Suspected In Junkyard Fire

From Staff And Wire Reports

A fire in a Coeur d’Alene salvage yard that burned a junk car and other debris Sunday afternoon is believed to have been intentionally set.

A scrapped AMC Pacer, some old tires and wheels, two plastic barrels and other miscellaneous items were destroyed by the 3 p.m. fire. Flames also burned an 18-by-12-foot grass area and a tree at Action Auto, which was seized recently by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department in a civil action.

A man who discovered the fire told police he saw two teenagers leave the salvage yard shortly before noticing the fire, according to a Coeur d’Alene police report.

The two were described as in their late teens. One had short hair on top with shaved sides. , DataTimes
