How Long Must You Work For A Big Mac In Bombay?

Workers in Geneva and Zurich earn the highest salaries in the world, followed by those in Copenhagen, Tokyo and New York, the Union Bank of Switzerland says.

Meanwhile, workers in Moscow, Bombay, India and Nairobi, Kenya are the lowest paid, with hourly salaries that are only 5 percent of their Swiss counterparts.

Switzerland’s largest bank conducts its survey every three years using more than 20,000 data items relating to prices, wages, wage deductions and working hours. On of those data items is the average length of time a person has to work to earn the money for a Big Mac.

Fast-food fans in North America came out best in the rankings, having to work only 12 minutes to buy the McDonald’s hamburger, compared with a global average of 37 minutes.

The report also said that a selection of over 100 goods and services shows that Tokyo is the most expensive city in which to live, followed by Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Zurich, Singapore and Geneva.

Meanwhile, the cheapest cities to live in are Budapest, Prague, Istanbul and Bombay, the report said.
