No Verdict Yet In Loukaitis Murder Trial

Jurors were unable to reach a verdict Friday in the Barry Loukaitis murder trial.

Loukaitis, now 16, is pleading innocent by reason of insanity in a 1996 deer-rifle attack that left three people dead at a Moses Lake junior high.

The jury resumes deliberations Monday.

Loukaitis killed two 14-year-old classmates - Manuel Vela and Arnold Fritz - and his algebra teacher, Leona Caires. Student Natalie Hintz, then 13, was wounded in the rampage.

Loukaitis is being tried as an adult on three counts of aggravated first-degree murder, one count each of attempted murder and seconddegree assault, and 16 counts of kidnapping.

The case is being heard in Seattle because of concerns about pretrial publicity in Grant County.
