Utah 56, Texas-El Paso 3: In Salt Lake City, three Utah quarterbacks combined for six passing touchdowns, three of them caught by Daniel Jones, as the Utes (3-1, 2-0 WAC) routed the Miners (0-3, 0-2). Jones scored on tosses of 41, 54 and 25 yards, finishing with 187 yards on eight catches.

Wyoming 30, San Jose St. 10: In Laramie, Wyo., Marques Brigham ran 27 yards for the clinching touchdown and Greg Van Leer returned a fumble 90 yards for a score later in the fourth quarter, leading the Cowboys (3-1, 2-0 WAC) over the Spartans (0-3, 0-1).

UNLV 25, Hawaii 15: In Las Vegals, the Rebels (1-2) earned their first win at the expense of the Rainbows (2-2).

Midwest

Kentucky 49, Indiana 7: At Bloomington, Ind., Tim Couch, who earlier this season set a Kentucky record for passing yardage, threw a school-record seven touchdown passes as the Wildcats (2-1) beat the Hoosiers (1-2).

Craig Yeast caught four of Couch’s TD passes, tying another Kentucky record.

Rice 40, Northwestern 34: At Evanston, Ill., Michael Perry scored three touchdowns, the last with 1:24 to play, to lead the Owls (2-1) over the Wildcats (2-2).

Perry had 19 carries for 104 yards and two TDs and also caught a 44-yard scoring pass from Chad Nelson. Nelson rushed for 178 yards on 26 carries in Rice’s option offense.

Purdue 28, Ball State 14: At West Lafayette, Ind., Billy Dicken threw for 223 yards on 27-of-42 passing and two touchdowns and scored on a quarterback sneak as the Boilermakers (2-1) stopped the Cardinals (1-3).

Purdue intercepted three passes from Jake Josetti. The Boilermakers held the Cardinals to less than 100 yards of offense until the closing minute of the third quarter while building a 28-7 advantage.

Cincinnati 34, Kansas 7: At Cincinnati, Chad Plummer ran for a touchdown and threw for one as the Bearcats (2-1) took advantage of six turnovers and held the Jayhawks (3-1) to minus-46 yards rushing.

Kansas lost four fumbles and had two interceptions.

Wisconsin 36, San Diego State 10: In Madison, Wis., Ron Dayne’s four touchdown runs lifted the Badgers (3-1) over the Aztecs (1-2).

Mike Samuel completed 12 of 13 passes for 176 yards and Dayne gained 145 yards on 26 carries as the Badgers earned their third consecutive win.

Southwest

Texas A&M 66, SW Louisiana 0: At College Station, Texas, Branndon Stewart passed for two touchdowns and ran for two and Dante Hall returned a punt 70 yards for a score as the Aggies (2-0) avenged an upset loss of a year ago with a rout of the Rajin’ Cajuns (0-4).

The Aggies, who haven’t allowed a touchdown in two games, scored on seven of nine first-half possessions for a 45-0 halftime lead.

Missouri 42, Tulsa 21: At Tulsa, Okla., quarterback Corby Jones ran for three touchdowns and threw a 26-yard TD pass to lead the Tigers (2-1) over the Golden Hurricane (0-3).

Jones scored on runs of 52, 13 and 10 yards - part of 357 rushing yards by Missouri. He finished with 126 rushing yards and completed 11 of 14 passes for 121 yards.

Navy 46, Southern Methodist 16: In Dallas, Enrico Hunter and Rashad Smith returned interceptions for touchdowns and Chris McCoy scored twice in the second half as the Middies (2-1) thumped the Mustangs (1-2).

South

Minnesota 20, Memphis 17: At Memphis, Tenn., Thomas Hamner rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns as the Golden Gophers (2-1) held off the Tigers (1-3). Minnesota cornerback Jimmy Wyrick intercepted a desperation pass in the end zone on the final play of the game.

Georgia Tech 28, Wake Forest 26: In Winston-Salem, N.C., Joe Hamilton threw three second-half scoring passes as the Yellow Jackets (1-1) rallied past the Demon Deacons (1-2) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. Hamilton finished 19 of 27 passes for 208 yards.

South Carolina 26, East Carolina 0: At Greenville, N.C., Anthony Wright threw two touchdown passes and the Gamecocks (2-1) avenged last year’s 291-yard rushing performance by Scott Harley by blanking the Pirates (1-2).

South Carolina received first-half scoring passes of 41 and 20 yards from Wright.

Duke 20, Army 17: In Durham, N.C., Sims Lenhardt kicked a 27-yard field goal with 54 seconds left to lift the Blue Devils (1-2) over the the Cadets (1-2) and snap a 15-game losing streak.

North Carolina St. 41, Northern Illinois 14: At Raleigh, N.C., Tremayne Stephens and Rahshon Spikes each ran for two touchdowns as the Wolfpack (3-1) overpowered the Huskies (0-4).

Vanderbilt 40, Texas Christian 16: In Nashville, Tenn., Damian Allen threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as the Commodores (2-1) topped the Horned Frogs (0-3).

East

Boston College 35, Rutgers 21: At Piscataway, N.J., halfback Mike Cloud scored four touchdowns in his first start this year and the error-prone Eagles (2-1, 2-1 Big East) gained 524 yards to overpower the Scarlet Knights (0-4, 0-2).

Cloud ran for 166 yards and scored on runs of 6, 8 and 4 yards. He also caught a 19-yard scoring pass from Matt Hasselbeck.

Walter King caught touchdown passes of 81 and 31 yards. Hasselbeck completed 21 of 27 passes for 314 yards.

Syracuse 30, Tulane 19: At Syracuse, N.Y., Kyle McIntosh scored twice on 7-yard runs in the third quarter and Tebucky Jones returned an interception 98 yards on the final play of the game as the Orangemen (2-3) averted yet another upset and beat the Green Wave (1-2).

The Orangemen overcame four first-half interceptions thrown by Donovan McNabb, who was 15 of 23 for 246 yards. Tulane QB Shawn King completed 21 of 46 passes for 339 yards.

Marshall 48, Western Illinois 7: In Huntington, W.Va., Chad Pennington threw three touchdown passes, two to Randy Moss, and Doug Chapman ran for two touchdowns to lead the Thundering Herd (3-1) over the Leathernecks (3-1).
